stephanie_headshot.jpg Local Color’s Stephanie Brown is a respected architectural color consultant and interior designer who provides consultation services to home and business owners throughout the United States.

Brown, who studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, holds a B.A. in interior design and public relations from Marylhurst University. Thus, she brings a potent combination of knowledge, experience and passion to her work. Having studied interior design methods, color theory, interior and exterior finishes, building materials, art, and architecture history, she possesses both the knowledge and skills necessary to help clients unlock the hidden potential of their homes and buildings with color. And having worked in the public relations industry for a number of years (serving clients as diverse as Welch’s, Intel and Reebok) she thoroughly understands marketing strategy and knows precisely how to help business owners use color to build visibility and reach new customers. (If you’d like to learn more, please click to find out about Brown’s color philosophy.)

Since opening Local Color in 2001, Brown has overseen several large-scale restorations including the refurbishment of the Samuel Cobb House - a 7000 square foot Arts and Crafts gem located in Portland’s Mt. Tabor neighborhood, and the six month renovation of the 1940s-era Academy Theater for which she received both the Elisabeth Potter Historic Preservation Advocacy and Education Award and the Architectural Heritage Center’s Preservation in Action Award.  She also teaches part-time in the interior design department at Portland Community College.

Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her husband Julio, daughters Chloe and Ginger, and a pair of rambunctious pugs, Brown is actively involved in her community.  She is a past organizer of the Historic Preservation League of Oregon Winter Lecture Series and Home Tour and helped plan HPLO’s Rehab Oregon Right workshops. She is also the creator of Pug Crawl, a fun-filled pug-centric annual fundraiser benefiting the Oregon Humane Society.

Brown is a member of the Bosco-Milligan Architectural Heritage Center and The National Trust for Historic Preservation
